At MWC Shanghai 2019, Dongguan based manufacturer Oppo has finally unveiled the world first under display camera technology today which was teased earlier this month. The core concept of the technology is the camera is embedded under the display and it’s able to take images through the solid material, therefore, no camera notch, hole punch display or movable part will be needed to make the display bezel-less.
To make this work, Oppo has introduced highly transparent material overlying the camera module and camera itself has a large aperture, big sensor and greater pixel size – all of these to reduce the light refraction.

There are three main algorithms to target other problems. First of all White balance, to calibrate the color properly. Next is the HDR algorithm to compensate brightness and contrast and the last Haze Removal to sharpen the image as normally as it would be blurry as the light will come through the display.

Oppo also said that they are going to deliver a “futuristic, notch-less, unibody and highly-recognizable smartphone”. Although there are no words about the specification or launch date about the phone having the under display camera.
On the other hand, Xiaomi also teased their take on the same under display camera technology on the same day but we are still waiting for more information about that.
