Remember the iconic Moto Razr? The iconic flip phone from the early 2000s’ is making comeback in a new avatar. Motorola has introduced the all-new Moto Razr, which is quite similar to the old Moto Razr but is improved in every way. Now, it’s a foldable smartphone, powered by Android. The form factor remains the same but the main highlight of the phone is the display. There is a 6.2-inch foldable plastic OLED panel on the device, instead of that small LCD and T9 keypad.
The new Moto Razr is most interesting because of how Motorola has implemented the vertically foldable phone design. While most other foldable smartphones are huge and open up horizontally, the Razr does the same but vertically. And that is why the new Moto Razr is called Moto Razr because you will still get that nostalgic feeling whenever you hold the phone. Also, due to this kind of design choice, the Moto Razr is comparatively smaller and easy to fit in the pocket, unlike Galaxy Fold or anything that has a footprint of a tablet. Keeping the tradition alive, the Moto Razr still holds a quite big chin that houses a fingerprint scanner. Also, the bottom holds a USB-C port and loudspeaker.
Interestingly, the new Moto Razr is made in India. At least that’s what we can see from the hands-on video by The Verge. However, we are not quite sure whether that will help with the pricing or not.
Moto Razr Specifications [2019]
In terms of specs, the Moto Razr is way smarter and better than its elder brother. On the new Moto Razr, you get a 6.2-inch flexible OLED HD+ display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. It folds completely in half, making it compact while not in use. While folded, there is a 2.7-inch display that has quite a few uses like taking selfies, check notifications, control music playback, and a much more.
In terms of camera, there is nothing very exciting, or megapixel games going on with the Moto Razr. Motorola has kept things simple but interesting here- You get a 16-megapixel f/1.7 primary shooter on the phone which you can use for taking selfies as well when the phone is folded. However, upon opening the phone, you get a 5-megapixel camera as well, just in case you want to take selfies in the usual way using a smartphone. Motorola has added Night Vision mode for optimizing photos take in low-lighting conditions.
In terms of hardware, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM. Again, no flagship chipset on the Moto Razr, but this has also been done by keeping a few things in mind. The Snapdragon 710 is being used probably because of its power efficiency, as the Moto Razr packs a 2510mAh battery, obviously to keep the phone slim. However, the phone supports 15W fast charging.
The phone runs Android 9 Pie out of the box with Motorola’s usual touches in the software, which makes it possible for Moto Razr to switch from the secondary to primary display and show the content seamlessly on the primary display whenever you flip the phone open. The Moto Razr doesn’t have a SIM Card slot, yes you read that right. It uses eSIM instead and so, connectivity wise, it’s as good as any other modern smartphone. The phone supports 4G LTE and has connectivity options like Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and NFC.
