Huawei Consumer Business Group, India, has announced that its flagship 5G Chipset, Kirin 990 series will soon be available in India which is the world’s first all-in-one 5G Chipset. Encompassed with 10.3 Billion transistors make it one of the most effective, fastest and efficient chipsets available in the market. Huawei’s R&D center in Bengaluru, the largest for Huawei outside China, was also involved in making the chipset and has played a major role. Kirin 990 and Kirin 990 (5G) was first launched in IFA 2019 in early September.
Tornado Pan, the country manager of Huawei Brand, Consumer Business said “As one of Huawei’s key markets, Customer-centric innovation is at the heart of everything we do in India. The Kirin 990 is the very pinnacle of smartphone technology today and will leapfrog consumers into a new era of 5G.” He added, “We are glad to announce a chipset that will revolutionize the way people use their smartphones.”
Huawei Kirin 990 Series Key Features
Ultra-fast 5G Connectivity
With the cutting-edge 7 nm+ EUV manufacturing process and integrated 5G Modem, Huawei’s Kirin 990 (5G) is the first 5G SoC in the world that supports the industry’s most compact 5G smartphone solution. It is also the first SoC to support both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) architectures as well as TDD/FDD full frequency bands. Downlink rate of 2.3 Gbit/s and an uplink peak rate of 1.25 Gbit/s are the results of internal testing of the Kirin 990 (5G).
NPU Architecture for Robust AI Computing
Kirin 990 (5G) comes with a dual-core NPU built on the Da Vinci architecture, which comprises large NPU cores and tiny NPU cores. In heavy computing scenarios, large NPU cores start working and for all other things, the tiny NPU cores get into the action which consumes extremely low power.
Powerful Visual Performance
The large cores can boost up to 2.86 GHz frequency to provide enough performance to produce smooth graphics and it is supported by the Mali-G76 GPU. For gaming experiences, Kirin 990 (5G) supports an upgraded Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 that enables efficient collaboration between hardware infrastructure and solutions.
ISP 5.0 for Better Photography
ISP 5.0 pioneers block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) and professional-level hardware noise reduction (NR) for capturing brighter and sharper images in low light environments. It is also the first to use dual-domain video NR for less noisy videos. Based on AI segmentation, Kirin 990 can produce images with cinematic quality.
As a result of the friction between the USA and China, Huawei is now not able to make smartphones with Google apps pre-installed or use any google services and their latest release Mate 30 Pro is a big example of that. Now it is a matter of time to see how Indian consumers accept the fact and if smartphones with Kirin 990 chipsets grabs a respective amount of sales in India. We just wait till the end of this year for that.
