Huawei is the world’s largest telecommunications equipment maker, but after the blow from the US in the form of the trade war, they are back against the wall. Huawei’s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said that they are expecting a revenue drop of $30 billion over the next two years. He added “I didn’t expect the US to be so determined in attacking us so widely,”

Just to rewind, US blacklisted Huawei from doing business with American companies, and Google took the first step, saying Huawei will not be able to use Android anymore. Soon ARM also went in the same route. China immediately threatened US companies that if the thing stays this way China will create a list of unreliable entities.

Currently, Huawei is already noticing a 40% drop on their overseas shipment and started planning about the ways to get their stronghold back. They were already making an OS from a long time, now they stepped on the nitro and expecting to launch it soon, called Hongmeng OS or Ark OS. Major smartphone makers from China, like Oppo and Xiaomi, also trying the OS, and it is estimated that to be 60% faster than Android. Huawei is also reportedly trying to replace Android with Russian Aurora OS which is based on Sailfish OS, making terms with Russia better.

On the other hand, as the US service providers were planning to launch their 5G network, the ban could make the whole situation unstable, but the largest telecoms operator MTS signed Huawei to develop 5G technology for them.

Not only in consumer devices, but they are also trying their luck in the automobile industry and started to take part in the self-driving car business. In a report from Financial Times, Huawei is partnering with car manufacturers from Europe, Japan, and China to launch their self-driving car as early as 2021. Huawei is also trying to prosper in AI, partnering with other homegrown companies.

Every day the tension is building up between the countries and Huawei is pushing hard to get their place back in the international market.
