Everything Huawei Launched At MWC 2019

Just like last year, Huawei has made some exciting announcements at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona. Though the Chinese tech giant has announced quite a few products, one or two of them were most exciting as these devices brought new innovations and opened up the possibilities towards a more flexible lifestyle, better connectivity and much more.

Probably the most exciting product from Huawei at MWC  this year is the Huawei Mate X, a foldable phone cum tablet that folds gracefully to turn into a phone and once opened up, it is a full-sized tablet. One more interesting thing is that the screen actually folds outside, unlike the Galaxy Fold. It is a 6.6-inch smartphone, which acts like just a regular smartphone and the display size of the tablet is 8-inch.

The Huawei Mate X supports hybrid dual nano-SIM cards. It is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 980 chipset, coupled with 6 GB of RAM. It holds a 4500mAh battery and Huawei claims that its SuperCharge technology will charge the Mate X from 0% to 85% in just 30 minutes. Also, it supports 5G and it will come with a price tag of $2600, so it’s not just another flagship consumer product yet and it is expected that Huawei may start shipping it by the middle of this year. The Mate X is being seen as a groundbreaking product as the device brings the future, i.e. foldable smartphone in the grasp of consumers, this is, of course, one of the  5 design changes that we expected to see this year!

In terms of networking, Huawei brought the Huawei 5G CPE Pro, the CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) that provides ultra-high speed broadband and intelligent Dual-Link features. Powered by the Balong 5000, this router serves as a breakthrough in 5G deployment and accessibility for consumer devices worldwide. The Huawei 5G CPE Pro utilizes its proprietary Balong 5000, which is the industry’s first 5G multi-mode modem chipset. The power of the chipset enables the router to support Sub6G full-band coverage as well as a theoretical peak performance download rate of 4.6Gbps. The actual download speed of Huawei 5G CPE Pro on commercial networks reaches up to 3.2Gbps. Also, Huawei claims that it can provide 21 times better downloading speeds as compared to the 4G network. This means that Huawei is getting ready to launch 5G products soon in the market.

In terms of notebooks, Huawei has launched a couple of those at the Mobile World Congres, and right now, its latest and greatest notebook is the Huawei MateBook X Pro, which is the first-ever FullView notebook. It is an upgraded version of the MateBook X Pro launched last year and commenting on the product, Wang Yinfeng, President of the PC and Tablet Product Line, Huawei Consumer BG, said, “As an ultra-slim flagship notebook, the all-new HUAWEI MateBook X Pro epitomizes Huawei’s signature design and craftsmanship. Meanwhile, the breakthroughs in the touch-enabled Ultra FullView display, power consumption, performance, and all-scenario connectivity empower consumers to stay productive anytime, anywhere. The premium aesthetics, innovative technology, and intelligence are engrained in the DNA of the MateBook X Pro Series, and the latest iteration exemplifies that heritage. It is our most powerful, portable and intelligent all-purpose device yet, and we’re excited to bring that to the hands of consumers.”

Huawei said via a press release that ‘the Huawei MateBook X Pro is made for jet-setting business users and professional content creators, power users that pursue or demand a high quality of life’. The MateBook X is highly portable and sleek, as it is just 14.6mm thick and weighs 1.33 kg. The ultra FullView Display has minimum bezels and a screen to body ratio of 91%. The display measures at 13.9-inches sporting a resolution of 3K (3000×2000) and carriers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The MateBook X Pro is powered by the 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8565U or i5-8265U, along with NVIDIA GeForce MX250 running on 2GB GDDR5 VRAM, fulfilling the needs of creators. The MateBook X Pro features the Dolby Atmos Sound System featuring quad speakers. In terms of connectivity as well, Huawei MateBook X Pro checks most boxes as it comes with Thunderbolt 3 port which supports two-way data transmission at a speed of up to 40Gbps. Huawei has claimed that it also supports the world’s fastest Wi-Fi on a notebook and the notebook comes with Bluetooth 5.0.

Huawei has also made a few fundamental changes here and there like a fingerprint scanner is embedded into the power button and recessed camera. The Huawei MateBook X Pro comes with USB-C power input that supports fast charging. The new MateBook X Pro will be available from April 2019 in mainland China, as well as countries and locations in Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, Middle East and more. The model with Intel Core i5 will cost 1599€ while the higher variant with Core i7 processor will come with a price tag of 1999€.

Along with the MateBook X Pro, Huawei has launched the MateBook 13 and MateBook 14, which are Huawei’s latest ultra-portable lightweight notebooks designed for mainstream consumers. Commenting on these two new notebooks, Wang Yinfeng, President of PC and Tablet Product Line, Huawei Consumer BG, said, “Interconnection and interoperability between PCs and smartphones allow consumers to enjoy a seamless one-stop user experience. Together, they are a key pillar supporting the all-scenario ecosystem, and by extension, Huawei’s all-scenario strategy. On the other hand, we are also witnessing a change in consumer behaviors—whereas in the past they may look for PCs that are of good value, they are now gravitating toward more premium products. Combining premium design, FullView display, high performance, and better connectivity features, the HUAWEI MateBook 13 and HUAWEI MateBook 14 are the perfect companions for consumers looking for notebooks that sport extreme portability, high performance, and superb all-scenario connectedness—and do so in style.”

The 14-inch Huawei MateBook 14 is equipped with Huawei’s signature FullView display, with bezels, as thin as 4.9mm and carries a 2K+ display having a resolution of up to 2160×1440 pixels at 185ppi, 1000:1 contrast ratio and a peak brightness of up to 300nits. The MateBook 14 is powered by up to the 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8565U, PCIe x4 SSD, ensuring a smooth and stable experience along with the help from the NVIDIA GeForce MX 250 GPU with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM.

Just like the MateBook X Pro, the Huawei MateBook 14 also features Fingerprint Power Button 2.0, Dolby Atmos. Along with the MateBook, Huawei also launched the all-new MateBook 13, which is a 13-inch mainstream notebook powered by the 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8565U processor and the NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU. It is equipped with Huawei’s Shark Fin Fans 2.0 supporting higher fan speeds and greater air output. It features a 3:2 FullView display with 10-point multi-touch option and a screen-to-body ratio of 88%. The Huawei MateBook 13 will be available in China as well as select countries and locations in Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, Middle Eastern and more from February 2019.

The HUAWEI MateBook 14 will be sold in China, as well as select countries and locations in Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, Middle Eastern and more from April 2019 onwards.
