In July 2016, we reported that Google is working on 2 smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0 under the code names of Angelfish and Swordfish. The collaboration is evident now along with the names. Google and LG have collaborated to bring the first smartwatch with the majorly updated Android wear version 2.0. The partnership of Google and LG reminds us about the good old days of Nexus 4 and Nexus 5. Google discontinued LG as it’s Nexus partner after the Nexus 5X’s failure. Google and LG are to unveil these smartwatches named Watch Sport & Watch Style on February 9th. The mockup images revealed in July, last year look very close to the final product images. Both the watches will support Google Assistant.

Google and LG’s Watch Sport & Watch Style Specs:
Both the watches will come in circular, plastic OLED displays. Watch Sport will be 14.2 MM thick & will come in titanium and dark blue colors. The screen of Watch Sport will be of 1.38 inches with 480*480 resolution. Watch Sport will have 4GB internal storage along with 768MB RAM and 430 mAh battery. On the other hand, Watch Style will be 10.8 MM thick with 1.2 inches screen size & 360 x 360 resolution. With the same 4GB internal storage as that of Watch Sport, Watch Style will be equipped with lesser 512MB RAM and smaller capacity battery of 240 mAh. Watch Style will be available in titanium, silver, and rose gold colors along with swappable straps. The display on both the watches is equipped with handwriting recognition. The digital crown button on both the watches will serve scrolling navigation as that in Apple Watches. Watch Sport model will also have 3G and LTE cellular capabilities apart from standard Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS. The mobile capabilities will make Watch Sport compatible with Android Pay. Watch Sport is IP68 certified and Watch Style is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance.
The untethered cellular telephony capability of Watch Sport will enable it to use the same phone number as that of the user’s primary phone. The specs clearly show the Watch Sport will be the Flagship watch, out of the two.
The sale of these smartwatches will start immediately post-launch on February 9, 2017, in the USA. Both these smartwatches will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress being held in Barcelona from February 27. Along with the launch of these devices, Android Wear 2.0 OS update will be rolled out to the legacy flagship smartwatches currently available.
